Supporting Members
The Supporting Member category fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and advocacy, creating a network of professionals who contribute to the advancement of Recreation Therapy while remaining connected to the organization’s mission and goals. This category is open to individuals and professionals who, while not practicing as Recreation Therapists or Recreation Therapy Assistants, wish to support the mission and goals of CTRA. These members come from a variety of related fields and have a vested interest in the advancement of Recreation Therapy, whether at the local, national, or global level.
Qualifications:
- Affiliation with Allied Fields: Supporting Members may include professionals from allied health fields such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, social work, mental health counselling, education, research, and other relevant disciplines. They may also include community leaders, educators, or stakeholders with an interest in Recreation Therapy.
- Interest in Recreation Therapy: Individuals who support the field of Recreation Therapy and its growth through advocacy, research, and interprofessional collaboration are welcome to join as Supporting Members.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Collaboration and Advocacy: Supporting Members play a key role in fostering interdisciplinary collaborationand advocacy. They bring valuable perspectives from their respective fields to enhance the impact of Recreation Therapy on clients’ well-being. They are encouraged to participate in discussions, provide input on policies, and support initiatives that promote the profession.
- Contribution to Research and Education: These members can engage in collaborative research, contribute to the development of educational resources, and share insights from their fields to advance the understanding and application of Recreation Therapy.
- Engagement in Professional Development: Supporting Members are invited to attend CTRA conferences, workshops, and webinars, where they can engage in cross-disciplinary learning and contribute to the ongoing development of the field.
Scope of Involvement:
- Non-Practicing Role: While Supporting Members do not practice as Recreation Therapists or Recreation Therapy Assistants, they can engage in the organization by participating in non-voting capacities, attending educational events, and accessing CTRA’s resources and publications.
- Interprofessional Collaboration: Supporting Members are encouraged to collaborate with Recreation Therapists in interdisciplinary settings, sharing knowledge and best practices to improve client outcomes and support holistic care approaches.
- Advocacy and Networking: This category enables professionals to contribute to the growth of Recreation Therapy by advocating for its recognition and integration into broader healthcare and community services, while also connecting with a network of like-minded professionals.
Supporting Membership Fee (2024/25):
- Without Provincial Membership $200.00
- With Provincial Membership $100.00
