Student Members

The Student Member category of the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA) is designed for individuals who are actively pursuing a formal education in Recreation Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation. This category supports emerging professionals in their educational journey, offering opportunities for engagement, learning, and networking within the field.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a Recognized Program: Student members must be currently enrolled in a recognized post-secondary program related to Recreation Therapy at either the baccalaureate or diploma level.
  • Proof of Enrollment: Students are required to verify their enrollment from a recognized institution to qualify for this membership category.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Professional Development: Student members are encouraged to actively engage in professional development opportunities provided by CTRA, including attending conferences, webinars, and workshops. These opportunities help students stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in the field.
  • Practicums and Fieldwork: Students are often required to complete supervised practicum, fieldwork or internship placements as part of their educational program. As student members, they can access resources and mentorship opportunities through CTRA to enhance their learning experiences and gain practical skills in Recreation Therapy.
  • Networking and Community Engagement: Student members have access to CTRA’s network of professionals, allowing them to connect with seasoned practitioners, build relationships, and explore potential career paths.

Scope of Role:

  • Supervised Practice: Student members are not qualified to practice as independent Recreation Therapists or Recreation Therapy Assistants but can participate in supervised roles during their field placements, under the guidance of the Recreation Therapist.
  • Access to Resources: As part of their membership, students can access various CTRA resources, including journals, research publications, and professional standards, which support their academic and professional growth.

Student Membership Fee (2024/25):

  • Without Provincial Membership $50.00
  • With Provincial Membership $25.00
